Italian or Foreign Citizens can obtain duty free custom clearance on vehicles if these have been owned and used abroad for more than 6 months (note that only proof acceptable by customs is the purchase date on original title). Particularly Italian Citizens can apply to Italian Consulates for the issue of a special duty free form exclusively for Vehicles. Regardless citizenship, it can be saken duty free entry ONLY for 1 Vehicle, not more.
Company's Vehicles are always subject to pay DUTY + T.V.A. Tax; such amount is approximatively 32% of vehicle value assessed on purchase Invoice or, in case not available, on Italian Official Price List for Vehicles.
A Foreign Citizen, not intending to import vehicles on a Temporary Basis can seek for Tourist Vehicle Custom Entry; however, free circulation is only allowed for a period of 6 months. Before this time expires, vehicles admitted on such special basis must be either nationalised (final clearance with payment of Duty + T.V.A. Tax - also to obtain Italian plates and Title) or Vehicle must be reexported from Italy.
Kindly do note that Italian Current Law imposes the submittance of Originale title when starting custom entry procedures. The Originale title will be returned to owner when custom procedures are completed.
